Discover in the final part of this three-part blog series where the discussions, the research, the questions, the learning will come from. In this blog, we’ll focus on how and why a blog from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy offers thought-provoking conversations and valuable insights into all things philanthropy.
Established in 1987 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) as the IU Center on Philanthropy, philanthropy courses were first taught at the IUPUI and IU campuses shortly after in 1988. Over the years, the Center created the first bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in the field, as well as the nation’s first endowed chair in philanthropy.
In 2012, the school was established as the world’s first school solely focused on teaching and research about philanthropy. In addition to the school’s philanthropic studies degree and certificate programs, we are also home to Lake Institute on Faith & Giving, the Women’s Philanthropy Institute, and The Fund Raising School, which helps nonprofit fundraisers, executives, and volunteers address their fundraising needs today and prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities.
Every day at the school, scholars and researchers analyze and produce new insights to advance philanthropy and its study, students study, learn, discuss, and examine this new knowledge, and both work together to help form a broader understanding of philanthropy.
We’ll take you behind-the-scenes and introduce you to the people who comprise the school. You’ll see personal profiles (or student spotlights) about current students, their dreams and why they’ve chosen to study philanthropy, as well as their internships and experiences. You’ll learn about cutting-edge faculty research and how that is changing the field of philanthropy, and hear faculty opinions, thoughts, and reactions about current trends or events.
You’ll learn about events, such as the 30th anniversary of the Center on Philanthropy and its transformation into a school, and guest speakers who offer ideas that can help you in your daily work, donor stories about why they choose to give back, and how studying philanthropy helped alumni shape their careers.
You’ll hear about opportunities to work with the school to help your nonprofit or organization, and how partnering on research studies can enhance understanding about philanthropy today and tomorrow.
We hope that you’ll engage with us through the blog and help us further philanthropy and its study. Is there a topic related to philanthropy that you hope we might address? Send it our way.
