Mark your calendars: October 11, 2022 is the first-ever Give to Women and Girls Day! The Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) is launching a national awareness campaign to increase funding for women’s and girls’ organizations that will culminate on October 11, 2022, the International Day of the Girl. Give to Women and Girls Day is a groundbreaking collaborative effort bringing together hundreds of women’s and girls’ nonprofit organizations raise awareness and galvanize philanthropic support for women and girls.
Why do we need a day for giving to women’s and girls’ organizations? Since 2019, WPI has measured giving to women’s and girls’ organizations through its Women & Girls Index (WGI), made possible by funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. While nearly 50,000 organizations are dedicated to women and girls across the United States, the WGI consistently shows that less than 2% of all philanthropic support goes to these organizations. As WPI looks toward releasing its fourth annual WGI research findings on October 11, the inaugural Give to Women and Girls Day is an opportunity to discuss how nonprofit organizations can incorporate WPI research into their fundraising efforts to help increase giving to women and girls beyond 2% of overall charitable giving.
Give to Women and Girls Day will equip a national network of organization leaders, communities and individuals with the resources necessary to engage across digital and social platforms to advance gender equity by increasing giving to women and girls. To share about Give to Women and Girls Day far and wide, WPI has engaged leading partners including Giving Tuesday; the Ms. Foundation; Philanos; Philanthropy Together; Pivotal Ventures, a Melinda French Gates company; Schusterman Family Philanthropies; United Nations Foundation; Vital Voices; Women’s Funding Network; and Women Moving Millions.
